Jonesboro Firehouse Renovation

The Broad Street project is a comprehensive development initiative led by the City of Jonesboro, which aims to revitalize and reinvigorate the downtown area. The project encompasses the renovation of a building, new construction, landscape architecture, and the implementation of a long-term plan for Jonesboro. The site is a part of The Downtown Core plan as laid out in the Jonesboro LCI, which aims to strengthen the connection between Lee Street Park and historic Main Street through infill development, providing more “connective tissue” between the downtown district and the park.

TSW was retained by the City of Jonesboro to re-purpose the old Jonesboro Firehouse Renovation building and renovate the surrounding parking lots and streets. The proposed design will retrofit the firehouse into a restaurant and brewery, with the addition of a coffee shop/gathering space that will be connected to the firehouse. This will create a vibrant hub of activity that will help to reinvigorate the downtown area.

The vision for Broad Street, which runs through the site, is to take the currently used parking alley, reduce the paved area, add street trees, sidewalks, and crosswalks for pedestrian safety. This will help to create a more inviting and walkable environment for visitors, making it a safer and more pleasant place to be.

The pavilion, which will overlook a central green, will be able to accommodate community events and help to reinvigorate the downtown area at all times of the day. When not in use for a show, the pavilion and green are intended to provide a safe quiet place for people to gather, meet with friends, play, and drink coffee. Across the green from the pavilion, there will be a covered porch that was added during the renovation of the firehouse, providing a space for outdoor dining and the chance of catching a show, it will be a perfect place to relax and enjoy the ambiance of the downtown area.
