Highlights:

  • Master plan for a city park south of City Hall East in Atlanta
  • The park was designed to link Freedom Park and Atlanta BeltLine

Description:

North Avenue Park at City Hall East is a 40-acre passive park located in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, on North Avenue. The park features lakes, open meadows, and a system of multi-use trails and serves as a much-needed greenspace for the community. The park also serves as a connection point, linking the Old Fourth Ward with Freedom Park and the Freedom Park trails on its southern edge, the BeltLine and Poncey-Highland neighborhood on its eastern edge, and City Hall East on its northern edge.

The park is also playing a crucial role in promoting sustainable urban development in the area. The park serves as a catalyst for sustainable urban, primarily residential mid-rise development encircling the park. The lakes, located along the low point of the Clear Creek Basin, serve as stormwater detention and water quality role for the new development. A park drive along the park’s western boundary provides accessibility to the park from the Old Fourth Ward and visibility into the park from adjacent new development.

North Avenue Park is not only a haven for the community, but it is also an environmentally conscious initiative. The lakes and the park serve as a stormwater detention and water quality role for the new development. This not only helps the environment but also helps prevent flooding and improve the overall water quality in the area.
