PARK PLACE MULTIMODAL MIXED-USE CENTER

Gwinnett County, Georgia
The Evermore Community Improvement District, which is responsible for revitalization in the Highway 78 corridor near Stone Mountain in suburban Atlanta, has selected TSW to lead the Park Place Multimodal Mixed-Use Center study. The effort, funded through the Livable Centers Initiative, aims to recommend improvements to the now-vacant Tennis Center that would serve as a catalyst for private investment and revitalize the area.

The Stone Mountain Tennis Center, which was constructed for the 1996 Olympic Games, now sits unused, adjacent to an abandoned big-box store in a corridor where retail is struggling. To address this issue, TSW has proposed a mixed-use center that builds on a phased program of transportation and stadium improvements. These improvements will make the Tennis Center a viable venue for an expanded range of events including the performing arts. This will not only reinvigorate the big-box store but also anchor the development of a mixed-use village with hotels, residences, a tennis academy, and sports-oriented retail.

The proposed mixed-use center is not just a solution for the current vacancies in the area but also a long-term vision for the future of the community. The world-class sports training center is expected to attract a diverse range of visitors, providing them with a comprehensive experience that includes sports, recreation, and entertainment. With the incorporation of hotels, residences, and sports-oriented retail, this mixed-use village will become a thriving community that caters to the needs of both residents and visitors.
