Community Planner

Currently Seeking: Community Planner

What do you want out of your planning career?

To apply your creativity to the real world? To work hand in hand with communities across the southeast? To build your planning skills (and have fun while doing it).

You’ll do it all at TSW.

We are an award-winning planning and design firm based in Atlanta, with additional offices in Chattanooga, Tulsa, and Lexington. For 35 years, we have been on the cutting edge of progressive community planning and dynamic urban design—and we want you to be a part of it.

We are seeking a full-time community planner. The position requires at least two years of post-graduate job experience in the planning world, strong writing and analytical skills, an eye for design, and great people skills.

It’s a dynamic role–you’ll do more than just crank out maps and charts. You will gain hands-on experience with our award-winning planning team, working on projects from before they even start (in the proposal phase) through to their completion.

A typical day may include:

  • Tackling technical planning tasks, such as mapping, land use analysis, and drafting findings
  • Preparing for and helping to facilitate public engagement activities, such as stakeholder interviews, community workshops, and pop-up events
  • Creating graphics to help communicate ideas, both in terms of illustrative planning graphics and report-based infographics
  • Participating in both internal meetings with TSW team members, and external meetings with partners and clients
  • Attending events to promote our work and grow your professional network
  • Developing proposals and interview presentations as part of the RFP/RFQ process

We do require…:

  • A portfolio of work that demonstrates your experience in community planning with examples of both your writing and graphic work; please be sure to note your specific contributions in any group work that is included
  • A Masters degree in City Planning or a closely related field like Landscape Architecture

  • A minimum of two (but up to five) years of professional experience post graduate school

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in the Adobe Suite and ArcGIS
  • A love for the field! City planning nerds welcome
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to set priories and meet deadlines
  • Ability to physically work out of one of Atlanta office at least three days per week.
