Engagement Squad Fellowship

Currently Seeking: Engagement Squad Fellowship

Want to build real-world skills in public engagement? Want to help shape how communities see themselves (and how they see the future)?

We think that’s pretty exciting, too — and we want you to bring your energy to it.

We are an award-winning planning and design firm based in Atlanta, with additional offices in Chattanooga, Tulsa, and Lexington. For 35 years, we have been on the cutting edge of progressive community planning—and now we’re opening up space for students to plug in.

We’re launching a part-time, paid Engagement Squad Fellowship based in our Atlanta studio. This isn’t an internship: it’s a chance to learn more about the planning process and represent our team in the field.

What You’ll Do

As part of our Engagement Squad, you’ll:

  • Kick off with an Engagement Training in January
  • Assist with creating and gathering meeting materials
  • Set up and tear down public meeting spaces
  • Serve as the “front of house” — greeting people and answering questions
  • Facilitate engagement activities with the public
  • Document meeting proceedings with notes, photos, and observations
  • Interact directly with community members, elected officials, and project stakeholders

You’ll work when your schedule allows, supporting our core staff and helping bring public involvement to life across North Georgia.

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to be a design or planning expert—just a motivated person with:

  • A genuine interest in city planning, public engagement, and community building
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Comfort talking with diverse groups
  • Excellent communication
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • (Bonus) Access to reliable transportation — not required, but helpful

What You’ll Get

  • Hourly compensation
  • Real, resume-worthy work experience in public engagement
  • Opportunity to collaborate with planners, designers, and community leaders
  • Networking across regions, exposure to project teams, and boots-on-the-ground insight into how public input shapes outcomes
