KAANAPALI NORTH BEACH |

From 1988 to 1992 TSW served as land planners for Amfac/JMB’s 17,000 acres in West Maui. Our responsibilities encompassed all facets of planning, including the design of golf course communities, resort facilities, affordable housing, agricultural subdivisions, and new towns. Our principal focus was the 3,300 acres in and around the existing Kaanapali Beach Resort, where the challenge was to accommodate primary residential and resort uses while preserving the pastoral character and agricultural productivity of the land. By establishing “country towns” within a surrounding fabric of low-density rural and agricultural lots, and by locating more intensive resort hotel uses as strategic activity/amenity nodes, these disparate land uses were comfortably integrated. |
