Description:
TSW was retained to lead the planning and design effort for an ambitious mixed-use retail, office, and residential development located in the heart of Lime Grove, the most exclusive resort area in Barbados. Strategically situated adjacent to the island’s thriving restaurant and entertainment district, the development was envisioned to serve both the affluent local residential community and the high-end international resort market, providing a dynamic blend of luxury, convenience, and lifestyle-focused amenities.
The project, led by TSW founding principal Bill Tunnell, began with an intensive three-day multidisciplinary design charrette that brought together architects, planners, engineers, and stakeholders to collaboratively shape the project’s vision. The result was a thoughtfully crafted master plan that includes 150,000 square feet of retail and office space with residential lofts above, structured parking, and an additional 60 townhomes, cottages, and condominiums carefully integrated into the site. The master plan emphasized walkability, vibrant public spaces, and a fine-grained urban fabric that fosters a lively and engaging streetscape experience.
The Lime Grove plan was developed in close collaboration with four other design and engineering firms, ensuring seamless coordination from concept through permitting. TSW oversaw the design development process, ensuring the master plan vision was carried through into the architectural and urban design details. The first phase of construction was successfully completed in 2009, marking a significant milestone in the transformation of the area.
Today, Lime Grove stands as one of the premier destinations in Barbados, celebrated for its luxury shopping, fine dining, and upscale residential options. The development has played a key role in revitalizing the surrounding area, making it a more vibrant and desirable place to live, work, and visit. It continues to attract both discerning residents and global travelers, reinforcing its reputation as a landmark project in Caribbean urban design.
