Description:

One of Atlanta’s oldest and most unique neighborhoods, Ansley Park has retained many of its most famous characteristics since it was founded 120 years ago: wide curvilinear streets, a network of beautiful parks and green spaces, and many examples of historic architecture. This has not been accidental. The neighborhood, led by active civic groups in partnership with the City of Atlanta, has remained a residential gem right on the edge of Atlanta’s successful Midtown district.

Fifty years after the publication of the 1973 Ansley Park Neighborhood Conservation Study led by renowned planner, Leon Eplan, TSW worked with the Ansley Park Civic Association to update the neighborhood’s guiding plan in response to modern challenges and Atlanta’s evolving urban form and approach to planning and development.

Synthesizing feedback from residents, the study focuses on:

  • Improvements to Ansley Park’s famously wide streets to slow down traffic and increase greenspace,
  • Maintaining its status as a residential neighborhood,
  • Providing a roadmap for other resources to ensure the neighborhood keeps its current character while looking toward the future.

The timing was apt: the plan was adopted shortly after the City of Atlanta adopted Plan A, their 2025 Comprehensive Development Plan, offering an opportunity to align recommendations and streamline implementation of key initiatives.
