Description:

TSW partnered with the City of Jonesboro to reimagine a key part of its historic downtown as part of the Jonesboro Firehouse Renovation project. The TSW Landscape Architecture Studio led the design and transformation of a derelict alley into Broad Street, a vibrant, pedestrian-oriented streetscape that enhances connectivity and public life in the heart of the city.

The Broad Street redesign embodies TSW's commitment to creating functional, sustainable, and community-focused public spaces. What was once an underutilized and neglected corridor now serves as a welcoming urban street that supports the Firehouse renovation and provides long-term value to downtown Jonesboro.

Key design features include:

  • Placemaking Signage: Distinctive wayfinding and identity signage reinforce Broad Street's role as a destination within downtown.
  • Green Infrastructure: A bioretention paver system manages stormwater naturally, reducing runoff while adding ecological and visual interest to the corridor.
  • Improved Access & Safety: A raised mid-block crossing creates a safer pedestrian experience while slowing vehicular traffic.
  • Parking Solutions: A new parking lot was integrated into the plan to serve the renovated Firehouse and nearby businesses.
  • Street Trees & Planting: Carefully selected plantings provide shade, beauty, and seasonal character, making the corridor more inviting throughout the year.

The Jonesboro Firehouse Renovation and Broad Street improvements serve as a model for small-scale, high-impact urban interventions. By blending infrastructure upgrades with placemaking and sustainability, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design can reenergize downtown districts, attract visitors, and support civic investment.

TSW is proud to have contributed to this effort, helping Jonesboro build on its historic character while advancing a vision for a more walkable, connected, and resilient downtown.
