Custom single-family home
Contemporary shingled woodlands aesthetic
Minimalist contemporary Interior
The Wagner family retained TSW to provide design and construction documents for their new home in a wooded area along the Lake Burton shoreline. The family wanted the design of the home to blend into the natural environment. To accomplish this, TSW designed a contemporary, organic variation of a shingled, woodland cabin. This allowed for a segmenting of the large 6,800 sf home into a grouping of wings that tuck into the hillside. The home maintains a low profile while preserving all nearby trees.
Viewed from the lake, the home succeeds in presenting a contextual design that is visually modest but impressive. Exterior materials include stained cedar shingles, bronze-colored standing seam roof, and ample use of steel sash with over-sized glazing. Interiors are minimalist and contemporary. Working with interior designer Kay Douglas, wall finishes are stained or painted poplar boards in a horizontal format complementary to the home’s linear design.
The property includes a boathouse with a roof-top patio, which has both covered and trellised areas for waterside recreation, including two jump platforms for swimmers who enjoy a fifteen-foot plunge into Lake Burton.
