Jonesboro Firehouse Renovation

Client: City of Jonesboro

Location: Atlanta, Georgia

Status: Construction Phase

  • Retrofit of a firehouse into restaurant and gathering space

  • Downtown infill development

  • New public pavilion and lawn areas for outdoor gathering

Broad Street is a comprehensive project that combines the renovation of a building, new construction, landscape architecture, and implementation of the long term plan for Jonesboro. The site is a part of The Downtown Core plan as laid out in the Jonesboro LCI, sought to strengthen the connection between Lee Street Park and historic Main Street with infill development to provide more “connective tissue” between the downtown district and the park.

TSW was retained by the City of Jonesboro to re-purpose the old Fire Station building, and renovate the surrounding parking lots and streets. The proposed design retrofits the firehouse into a restaurant and brewery with an addition of a coffee shop/gathering space that has been connected to the firehouse. The vision for Broad Street, which runs through the site, will take the currently used parking alley, and reduce the paved area, add street trees and sidewalks as well as crosswalks for pedestrian safety.

The pavilion will overlook a central green which will be able to accommodate community events and help reinvigorate the downtown area at all times of the day. While not in use for a show, the pavilion and green are intended to provide a safe quiet place for people to gather, meet with friends, play and drink coffee. Across the green from the pavilion will be the covered porch that was added during the renovation of the Firehouse to provide a space for outdoor dining, with the chance of catching a show.

The project is currently under construction and set to open late summer/early fall of 2020.
