Description:
TSW’s Landscape Architecture Studio developed the concept plan and construction documents for the Hall of Fame Walk, a public plaza and gateway to downtown Mobile, AL. Located in front of the Mobile Convention Center, the plaza serves as a prominent landmark, welcoming visitors and residents alike while celebrating Mobile’s rich culture of athleticism.
The project creates an iconic outdoor space, creating a critical link between downtown and the Mobile riverfront. It connects to an adjacent existing park, helping to activate the waterfront with expanded public greenspace. It features eight-foot-tall statues and biographies of National Hall of Fame athletes from Mobile, offering both educational insight into local heritage and a garden-like setting for strolling and relaxation.
Design elements include hardscape and landscape features for statue displays and interpretive panels, an interactive photo-op podium, seating walls, a renovated fountain, a large custom shade canopy, wayfinding and accent lighting, flood-resilient permeable paving, and large marquee sign. Mobility infrastructure such as ADA ramps, vehicular drop-off areas, and a protected bike lane along the streetscape frontage were designed to create a seamless experience for multimodal visitors, including those using wheelchairs or other mobility devices.
